For the opening race of the 1981 Winston Cup season at Riverside International Raceway, Petty Enterprises staged a deliberate car swap to qualify Kyle's No. 42 for NASCAR's "Winner's Circle" incentive program. Richard Petty climbed into the No. 42 STP Chevrolet while Kyle took the wheel of the familiar No. 43, a one-afternoon-only reversal of the family's iconic numbers. Richard brought the No. 42 home fifth; Kyle finished 20th in the No. 43. Both returned to their signature cars for the remainder of the season. This officially licensed Lionel Racing diecast captures the No. 42 as Richard Petty drove it that afternoon in Southern California.
