Jeff Gordon won the Miller 500 at Dover International Speedway on June 2, 1996, in dominant fashion behind the wheel of the Hendrick Motorsports #24 DuPont Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Gordon claimed the pole and led 307 of 500 laps en route to the 13th win of his Cup career, but tire wear nearly cost him the day until crew chief Ray Evernham made a gutsy call to borrow a fresh set of wheels and tires from a team that had already retired from the race.
