AJ Allmendinger drives the No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the NASCAR Cup Series, where he returned full-time in 2025 after several seasons of mixed schedules. Allmendinger is one of the most accomplished road racers in modern NASCAR, with a career that has spanned IndyCar, Cup, and Xfinity competition.
Born December 16, 1981 in Los Gatos, California, Allmendinger came up through go-karts and Skip Barber before competing in the Toyota Atlantic and Champ Car World Series, where he won five Champ Car races in 2006. He transitioned to NASCAR full-time in 2007 and made his Cup Series debut that season.
Allmendinger has multiple NASCAR Cup Series victories, headlined by his 2014 win at Watkins Glen for JTG Daugherty Racing and his 2021 Indianapolis Road Course triumph for Kaulig Racing. He is a multi-time NASCAR Xfinity Series winner, with more than a dozen victories in that series, and he won the 2014 Brickyard 400 pole. In 2025, Allmendinger earned his first Cup Series pole in over a decade at Bristol Motor Speedway and his first oval pole since April 2012 at Kansas Speedway.
A noted road-course specialist, Allmendinger has also competed in the Rolex 24 at Daytona and various sports car events throughout his career. He is well-known for his openness on mental health and has spoken publicly about his recovery and personal growth as a veteran of the sport.
