Ty Gibbs drives the No. 54 Toyota Camry XSE for Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. The grandson of team owner and Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs, he represents the third generation of his family in NASCAR after his late father, Coy Gibbs, served as a longtime team executive.
Gibbs grew up in the JGR shop in Mooresville, North Carolina, and rose through the development ladder quickly. He won the 2021 ARCA Menards Series championship with 10 victories, then took the 2022 NASCAR Xfinity Series title in his first full season at that level. His Cup career began full-time in 2023 with the No. 54 team, where he claimed Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors despite a winless campaign.
The breakthrough came in his fourth Cup season. Gibbs captured the inaugural NASCAR In-Season Challenge tournament at Indianapolis in July 2025, beating Ty Dillon in the final to claim the $1 million prize. Then in April 2026, he scored his first points-paying Cup victory at Bristol Motor Speedway in his 131st start, holding off Ryan Blaney and Kyle Larson on an overtime restart.
Now in his fourth full Cup season, Gibbs continues to develop alongside teammates Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell, and Chase Briscoe. Away from the track, he is active in family racing endeavors and frequently joins his grandfather at JGR campus events in Huntersville, North Carolina.
