Ross Chastain drives the No. 1 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the NASCAR Cup Series. The aggressive eighth-generation watermelon farmer from Florida is one of the most distinctive personalities in modern NASCAR, known as much for smashing watermelons in victory lane as for the audacious wall-ride that punched his ticket to the 2022 Championship 4.
Born December 4, 1992 in Alva, Florida, Chastain grew up working on his family's watermelon farm and racing late models at Punta Gorda Speedway and other regional Florida tracks. He came up the long way through the Truck and Xfinity ranks, often on a shoestring budget, before securing his Trackhouse seat in 2022.
Chastain has multiple NASCAR Cup Series victories, including breakthrough 2022 wins at Circuit of the Americas and the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, the 2023 Cup Series Championship Race at Phoenix, and the 2024 Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas. The Martinsville "Hail Melon" wall-ride in 2022, executed at roughly 130 mph, sent him to the Championship 4, where he finished second in the season standings.
Chastain remains active as a part-time driver in the NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series and the Craftsman Truck Series. Through his Ag to Asphalt program with Like A Farmer, he uses his platform to highlight family farms in NASCAR markets across the country.
