Richmond Raceway is a 0.75-mile D-shaped oval in Richmond, Virginia.
The track features 14 degrees of banking in the turns and 8 degrees on the straights. Richmond opened in 1946 and is owned by NASCAR. The track was reconfigured to its current 0.75-mile dimensions in 1988 from its original 0.625-mile half-mile fairgrounds layout. Richmond is sometimes called "The Action Track" for its tendency to produce aggressive, side-by-side short-track racing on a layout slightly larger than a typical short track.
Richmond hosts both spring and summer Cup Series race weekends. The summer race runs at night under the lights, drawing on the track's reputation as one of NASCAR's premier night-race short tracks. A win at Richmond carries the prestige of mastering one of the sport's traditional Saturday-night short-track environments.
