John Hunter Nemechek drives the No. 42 Toyota Camry XSE for Legacy Motor Club in the NASCAR Cup Series. The second-generation driver enters his fourth full-time Cup Series season in 2026 and his third with Legacy Motor Club, owned by seven-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson.

Born June 11, 1997 in Mooresville, North Carolina, Nemechek is the son of veteran NASCAR driver Joe Nemechek and was named after his uncle, John Nemechek, who was killed in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series accident at Homestead-Miami Speedway earlier that year. He raced go-karts, quarter midgets, and dirt bikes from age five before winning the 2012 Allison Legacy Series championship with 15 wins in 18 races.

Nemechek has 11 career NASCAR Xfinity Series wins (now O'Reilly Auto Parts Series), including a strong 2023 season with Joe Gibbs Racing in which he won at Fontana, Martinsville, Atlanta, New Hampshire, Michigan, Kansas, and Texas. He also has 13 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series wins and won the 2014 Snowball Derby. His 2025 Cup highlights included his first two career top-five Cup finishes, a fifth at the Daytona 500 and a fourth-place career-best at the Southern 500.

Nemechek continues to race part-time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for Halmar Friesen Racing in addition to his full-time Cup ride. He resides in Mooresville near his family racing operations.
