Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a 2.5-mile rectangular oval in Speedway, Indiana, just west of downtown Indianapolis.
The track features 9 degrees of banking in the four turns and is otherwise flat, with long straights and tight corners that demand precise handling. Indianapolis opened in 1909 and is owned by Penske Entertainment Corp. The famed yard of bricks at the start-finish line is the only remaining surface from the original brick paving. The facility also includes a 2.439-mile road course used for Cup Series races from 2021 through 2023.
Indianapolis hosts the Brickyard 400, the Cup Series crown jewel race that has been a fixture since 1994. The race returned to the oval in 2024 after three years on the road course. A Brickyard 400 winner traditionally kisses the bricks at the start-finish line in celebration. The track also hosts the Indianapolis 500 each May, one of motorsport's premier events.
