Bowman Gray Stadium is a 0.25-mile flat asphalt oval inside a football stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The track features no banking in either the turns or straights, making it one of the flattest race tracks in NASCAR competition. Bowman Gray opened in 1937 and was paved by NASCAR founder Bill France Sr. and Alvin Hawkins in 1947. NASCAR took over long-term management of the facility in 2024 in partnership with the City of Winston-Salem. The narrow quarter-mile track is known affectionately as "The Madhouse" for its tight quarters and aggressive racing.
Bowman Gray hosted Cup Series races from 1958 through 1971 and was NASCAR's first weekly racetrack. The Cup Series returned in 2025 with the Cook Out Clash, the preseason exhibition that opens each Cup Series season. A win at Bowman Gray draws on the heritage of one of NASCAR's most storied short-track venues.
