Alex Bowman drives the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the NASCAR Cup Series, the iconic car number that Jimmie Johnson piloted to seven Cup Series championships. Bowman enters his sixth season in the No. 48 in 2026 and ninth full-time season with Hendrick Motorsports.
Born April 25, 1993 in Tucson, Arizona, Bowman started racing quarter midgets at age seven in USAC competition before transitioning to dirt sprint cars. He survived a serious 2011 Las Vegas dirt-track crash that put him in intensive care before pivoting to stock cars. He earned ARCA Menards Series East Rookie of the Year honors in 2011 and made his Cup Series debut in 2014 with BK Racing.
Bowman has eight NASCAR Cup Series victories, with his most recent win coming at the Chicago Street Race in July 2024. He produced a four-win 2021 season after taking over the No. 48 from Johnson, with victories at Richmond, Dover, Pocono, and Martinsville. He is known for a record six consecutive front-row starts in the Daytona 500 from 2018 through 2023, including Daytona 500 poles in 2018, 2021, and 2023.
Outside the car, Bowman owns Alex Bowman Racing, a dirt midget and sprint car operation, and partners with Ally Financial and Best Friends Animal Society on a per-race donation program supporting no-kill animal shelters in NASCAR markets. He lives in Concord, North Carolina, with his three rescue dogs.
